The History of the Bonners Ferry Veterinary Clinic
Prior to any established veterinary clinics in Boundary County, all veterinary care was handled by Dr. L.F. Eskin of Sandpoint. Then in July of 1951, the Bonners Ferry Veterinary Clinic was built and established by Dr. George and Hazel Ugstad. The building was made of cinder block, a mere 800 square foot clinic that served Boundary County for the next 42 years. The Ugstads owned BFVC for 25 years until they sold the practice to Drs. Michael and Gretchen Peterson in June of 1976. But after owning BFVC for only four years, the Petersons decided to move to Canada. The Petersons then sold the practice to Dr. Robert and Peggy Alley on March 31, 1980. Dr. Peterson and Dr. Alley were both graduates of Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine.
In 1981, having practiced a year at the Moses Lake Veterinary Clinic, Dr. Roland Hall returned to his hometown of Bonners Ferry to work for Dr. Alley. After one year, Dr. Alley returned to California to pursue a musical career and decided to sell BFVC. So, on January 1, 1982, Dr. Roland and Linda Endow Hall became the new owners of the Bonners Ferry Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Hall worked the one-man practice for 11 years, paid off the loans and in 1993, built what is now the current building of the Bonners Ferry Veterinary Clinic at 6657 Main Street. Dr. Hall and Linda developed the business into a 4-person practice that provided both small and large animal care to clients from Boundary County, Troy and Libby, Montana, as well as Creston, B.C.
Finally, after 42 years of ownership, on November 1, 2024, the Halls sold the Bonners Ferry Veterinary Clinic to Dr. Sierra and Taylor Temple. Dr. Ugstad (’51), Dr. Hall (’78), and Dr. Temple (’23) were all Washington State University Vet School graduates, so the ownership has come full circle. Dr. Sierra and Taylor were both born and raised in Bonners Ferry, and are now raising their son Theo here as well, so their return to serving the people and their animals is a blessing to all their clients. Thus begins a new chapter in the history of the Bonners Ferry Veterinary Clinic.
